Epiphany Church Chicago

Author Kat Armas joins Epiphany Church this Sunday to share pieces and parables from her book "Liturgies for Resisting Empire". We learn together that empire is not only "out there" but "in here", and hear about ways to disengage from the logic of empire, and step into the truth of the kingdom.

Epiphany Church hears from Tim Soerens as we wrap up our time in Exodus. We see a picture of two modes of operating in our relationship to the world: a top-down triangle of empire, or a mutuality based in communion.

Epiphany Church looks at the 10 Commandments and the passages surrounding them, and Brian helps us reframe them as the gift they were to the Israelites. They show a picture of who God was to the Israelites, and the type of people they were to be in their world. 

Epiphany looks at the story of water from the rock in Exodus 17, and Brian shares what it might be revealing to us about the true nature of God's character.

Laura Truax joins Epiphany Church and speaks on Exodus 16. We learned together from the story of manna in the wilderness about the choice between comfortability and stability, and the fulfillment of life with God.

Epiphany hears from Brian on Pentecost, and spends time in the book of 1 Corinthians, learning from Paul's words about the church being "the body of Christ". We learn what it means to belong in the church, and how it looks different from the world's definition of belonging.

Christine Engel leads Epiphany in studying Mark 2:1-12. We learn from this story of healing in the gospel what it might mean to belong to the church and the kingdom of God.

Chelsea Kim Long join Epiphany Church Chicago in exploring our value of liberation. We look in to church history and tradition, unpacking the ways the church has opposed liberation, and the ways that Jesus calls us to freedom and equity for all.

Epiphany Church welcomes Laura Trax, former pastor of LaSalle Street Church, to share words and wisdom on our value of curiosity. Looking into several biblical passages, as well as hearing from church leaders of the past, we learned about how Jesus modeled curiosity in every aspect of his life.

Epiphany Church continues it's series through the values of the church; this week, Brian talks on Generosity and goes to the book of Hebrews for wisdom on the subject.
